We just won’t admit it, but the day you buy one, it starts to depreciate exponentially at an unknown rate. If you’re lucky, it could be months before its just paperweight. For the fortunate, a good run would be a solid year or two. It’s unfortunate, but computer books these days just aren’t useful. This would probably explain why we are all of a sudden plagued with ebook readers on steroids.
I purchased my last programming book roughly 5 months ago, and by the time the snow clears, we would already be in the next version of the language. Although the consistent updates doesn’t invalidate any existing information, it does bring about a heightened sense of alarm.
